Eddie Cashin RIP

A deep sense of shock overcame the area on Monday morning as word began to spread of the untimely death of our great friend Eddie Cashin. Eddie was as popular a man as you could ever meet and of course the history the Cashin family have with our club goes back many decades. Any mention of Eddie invariably brings us back to the great days of the late 70’s / early 80’s when he was an integral part of the Senior football team that won the clubs 1st Senior Title in 1978 and followed up again In 1979. He was captain in 1981, but unfortunately injury ruled him out of the final, but he was still the proudest man in the club bringing the Conway cup across the Causeway after the defeat of Ardmore.

Following his retirement from playing he continued to play an active role and managed the Senior team for a number of years. In recent times Eddie became known to a new generation of club members as he was an almost ever present in the field through his time on the FAS scheme and his work on the new pitch development. Along with this he could also often be found walking the grounds with his dog and would always be happy to stop for a chat. Indeed, the number of sliotars himself and his canine companion found must have saved the club a small fortune.

He was a great friend to many of us and will be missed terribly, but of course no more so than by Jacinta, Éamonn, Thomas and Cliodhna to whom we offer our deepest condolences. He was of course pre-deceased by Philip and we can only hope they are reunited in each other’s arms again.

There aren’t any words really that are sufficient to convey the grief and sense of loss and all we can do is once again offer our deepest condolences to Eddie’s family and many friends.

He will be sorely missed.

Deise Super Draw

In altogether happier news September's Déise Draw took place last Wednesday in the Mount Sion Centre, Waterford. The club had three winners including the top prize of €10,000 which was won by John Hickey. Moll and Páidi Shields were the sellers. Eddie Casey won €500 while David Whelan scooped €100. Those tickets were sold by Tony Elstead and Pa McGovern respectively. Congratulations to the lads. We hope they enjoy their winnings.

Thanks to everyone who bought and sold tickets. The next draw will take place on Wednesday, 13th October. Tickets, priced at €15, can be purchased from any committee member.

Jack The Joker

The ever-popular Jack The Joker draw took place on Monday night last. Anthony O Grady was drawn and picked number 20. When turned this was not the Joker, but he did win €50. Tomas Rua and Jimmy Cullinan won €25 each. The jackpot next week will be €2,100.
